what present could i make for a five-year old cousin?

charlie asked: okay, for the past couple of years I've made a present for my cousin for Christmas, birthday etc. I've written two books ( I used material and beads, i've done lift the flap and pop out) and then i made her a very small dolls house out of wood last Christmas. Maybe that wasn't such a good idea since I can't really top it! I've just run out of ideas, so anything that you can think of would be fantastic! She's turning five in a couple of months and I'd prefer to make something as i think it means more. Thanks

You could probably make her a cute purse, matching t-shirt, decorate some flip-flops, decorate a beach cover-up and make some jewelry and she’ll be ready for the summer.

teach her to save money by making her a can bank. use old cans, cover them with anything pretty. that’s it.

how wonderfully creative you are…and a lovely cousin!
why don’t you find some project ..that they two of you can make together….like a teddy bear ..or baking together….
that this time..the gift includes her input….since she’s now 5.

How about working with foam.
Make a playable world… with houses, cars, and figures that have interchangable clothes, etc.
And to top it off, make all the figures have actual faces of those that are important in her life.. her mommy, her dad, you, etc…
Just print them out, cut them to the proper sizes, and paste them onto heads.

How about a carrying case for the Doll House or her dolls? You could decorate it with ribbons, decoupage and her name.

Make he a puppet stage, can be done very simply with 1×2’s 2×2’s and canvas..or old heavy duty curtains!..add a couple of sock puppets and viola…she is now starring in her own productions!
I love the creative, home-made gifts for kids…my kids spent hours working on things like the puppet shows, turning huge boxes into homes. Kudos to you for teaching your cousin that life is not all Nintendo, and computer games..

Really, its not the gift that makes the event special, but the giving itself. Whenever you give, you are giving of yourself. So, don’t worry too much about what you give. Throughout the year, keep constant contact and be available for important people in your life. That is the best ongoing gift one can give.

Did she especially like the books? Or the doll’s house? If so there is no harm in repeating yourself. A new book is always great if she enjoyed the last one (especially if you write a story about her). And if the doll’s house is a favorite, add on. Build a shed, some furniture, or some other accessory for it.
I think what you’re doing is great and it is something that she will certainly look back on with fond memories.

Beading and jewelry design are big this year. Youl could put together a kit for her to make her own jewelry that you could help her with. Little girls love dazzling beads and baubles.

Photo album of her, or another book with a story you made up starring her!
A bird house so she can watch and learn about birds. You can help her make a stepping stone for the back yard, with a memory of the two of you doing it. Check out craft sites on line.
You sound wonderful!!!!! What a lucky cousin!!!

How about starting a photo album for her. She probablly won’t know what it’s about at the age of 5 but will get the hang of it.
Start with the oldest photo you have ( grandmother and grandfather) then their kids which will be aunt’s and uncles, plus mother and father (wedding photos) etc and keep adding to it each year with captions (year born, and to which aunty or uncle)under each photo.
This way, as she gets older she can add to the album.
I started mine when I was 18. It’s grown a lot, as I have 123 cousins on my mothers side and even more on my fathers.
Then when she/he gets married … carries on the photo album.
